October 31, 2010 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Texas Tornado News Release

Behind two goals from Jackson Leef and 31 saves from goaltender Jimmy Kruger, the Texas Tornado moved their NAHL season-high winning streak to 10 games in a row with a come-from-behind 2-1 win over the Wenatchee Wild in Frisco on Saturday night.

The game began much like the game on Friday night, with both teams trading equal chances. The Tornado quickly gained the advantage as a 5 on 3 power play. J.D. Howard fired home a goal, which he had thought had given the Tornado a 1-0 lead, but the referee waived the goal off ruling Marc Biggs was in the crease. After a scoreless 1st period, the Tornado outshot the Wild 11-6.

The 2nd period was all Wild in the beginning. Some uncharacteristic turnovers by the Tornado defense led to the first Wenatchee goal by Tyler Hope, who converted on a 2 on 1 past a helpless Jimmy Kruger. The Wild made it 2-0 with a shorthanded goal. While on the power play the Tornado got caught pinching at their offensive blueline, which led to an uncontested 2 on 0 on Kruger. Kruger did his best to cut down the angle, but Evan Schmidbauer fired one over Kruger's blocker for the lead. The Tornado managed to cut into the Wenatchee lead thanks to an incredible individual effort by Jackson Leef, who walked out from the corner and somehow got a backhand shot past Wild goalie Brandon Jaeger.

The 3rd period saw the Tornado turn the game completely around with the help of the power play. After a strategic timeout, the Tornado converted on a 5 on 3 power play as J.D. Howard sent home a rebound past Jaeger to tie the game at 2-2. Ralfs Freibergs and Jack Prince assisted on the power play goal. Just :31 seconds later Jackson Leef scored his second of the night as he put home a rebound for the eventual game-winner with assists to Josh Royston and Pavel Hurtik. The rest of the game was the Jimmy Kruger show as the NAHL's leading goaltender stopped all 15 Wenatchee shots to send the Tornado to their 10th straight win. The 10 wins in a row is the second most since the 2003-04 season when the Tornado won an amazing 16 regular season games in a row.
