Tormenta FC Crowned 2022 USL League One Champions

South Georgia Tormenta FC News Release


STATESBORO, Ga. - South Georgia Tormenta FC was crowned the 2022 USL League One Champions after a last-minute winner by Jamil Roberts sealed the team's first-ever professional title, and the club added its second title of 2022 after obtaining its first title in the summer of 2022 with Tormenta FC's W League team's 2-1 title win in Minnesota.

South Georgia's dominance throughout the first half saw it earn a 35-minute penalty. Sterling netted his fourth goal in the playoffs and gave the team the early lead.

Chattanooga got one back in the final minutes of the first half. A tense first half transitioned into the second half and saw both teams get opportunities for a second goal.

Multiple subs were brought into the second half to re-energize the team. Two of those, Ryan Sierakowski and Roberts, were involved in the game-winner. A recovered ball by Sierakowski helped him place a crucial pass to Sterling, who saw Roberts open in space. Roberts, who rises to the occasion in crucial matches, blasted the ball into the back of the net. Roberts earned Marshall University its first title in 2021, and now, Roberts goes down in Tormenta FC history for the game-winning goal in the 2022 USL League One Final.

Kazaiah Sterling was named the 2022 USL League One Final MVP is Kazaiah Sterling. Sterling provided an assist and a goal to be the protagonist of tonight's match.
