Elmira Jackals News Release
The Elmira Jackals, proud member of the United Hockey League, announced today that they have re-signed Simon Poirier to a one-year contract for the 2004-2005 season. He becomes the fifth returning Jackal and eleventh player signed for the upcoming season.
The Jackals acquired Poirier on February 17 of last season in a trade with Port Huron. He tallied eight assists, with 62 PIMs, in 23 regular season games for the Jackals. In the playoffs the big defenseman added six assists and 18 PIMS. Prior to coming to Elmira, Poirier played a year and a half with the Beacons, scoring 5 goals, 16 assists, and 166 penalty minutes in 111 total games. The Quebec native also spent time with two other UHL clubs, Missouri and Knoxville, both in the 2001-02 season. The 24-year old started off his hockey career in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League with Shawinigan and Drummondville.
"Simon was a great addition to the team last year. He had a rock-solid post-season," said Jackals Head Coach Todd Brost. "Simon combined with Trevor Burgess to be our best defensive pairing. Along with his size and strength, he brings great character and leadership to the team."
Season tickets, Twenty-game Packs, Ten-game Packs and Flex Packs are on sale now at the First Arena Box Office. For more information call 607-734-7825.
