
Tomshaw Tames Flying Tigers in 4-3 Victory

FORT MYERS, Fla. - The Fort Myers Miracle earned a series split with the Lakeland Flying Tigers, winning 4-3 on Saturday evening at Hammond Stadium in front of 3,471 for Breast Cancer Awareness Night.
The Miracle put up the first run of the ball game in the second inning. Adam Brett Walker slapped a lead-off single and advanced to third on a botched pick-off attempt by Flying Tigers starter Kevin Eichhorn. Mike Gonzales lifted a sacrifice fly to right field, plating Walker and putting Fort Myers up 1-0.
Fort Myers added a second run in the third frame. Jorge Polanco doubled and Stephen Wickens followed with a single to advance Polanco to third. Travis Harrison grounded into a force out which erased Wickens at second, but allowed Polanco to cross the plate lifting the Miracle lead to 2-0.
Lakeland scored in the top of the fourth off Miracle starter Matt Tomshaw. Curt Powell and Jeff McVaney hit back-to-back singles and Powell scored on a sacrifice fly by Austin Green, cutting the Miracle lead to 2-1.
Eichhorn (4-1) dealt four innings for the Flying Tigers. The right-hander surrendered two runs, one earned, off seven hits and was tagged with his first loss of the year.
The Miracle answered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth off Lakeland reliever Tyler Clark. Harrison began the frame with a single. With one out Adam Brett Walker belted a two-run blast onto the CenturyLink Lawn for his 14th homer of the season, bringing Fort Myers to a 4-1 advantage. Walker has homered in two games in a row and has totaled 31 RBI in his last 21 games.
Tomshaw (6-1) held the Flying Tigers to one run over seven innings. He allowed only five hits and gained his sixth consecutive victory.
Lakeland gained one off reliever B.J. Hermsen in the eighth as McVaney slapped a solo shot to left-center. Brian Gilbert recorded the next two outs and the score remained at 4-2.
Tyler Jones entered in the ninth for the Miracle and allowed a run before notching his seventh save of the year.
The Miracle hit the road for a pair of games against the Jupiter Hammerheads at Roger Dean Stadium.
