Johnstown Tomahawks News Release

The first meeting of the season between the Johnstown Tomahawks and the Janesville Jets was not one the Tomahawks will be eager to repeat, as the Tomahawks fell to the Jets 2-0 Friday night at the Cambria County War Memorial.

Janesville took an early lead just over eight minutes into the first period, when forward Zach Avolio caught Johnstown goalie Alex Okicki with a backhand shot immediately off a face-off. Avolio's unassisted goal was his fifth of the season. The period soon took a physical tone that would remain throughout the game as Janesville forward Tyler Rehm and Johnstown defenseman Dakoda Menslage fought in retaliation for a hit that knocked Johnstown's Logan Hudson out of the game.

Janesville took a two goal lead halfway into the second period during a power play, when forward Drew Callin took a wrist shot from the goal line that ricocheted off goaltender Okicki and into the net. Callin's goal, his 12th of the year, was assisted by Adam Winborg and Tyler Rehm.

The Tomahawks had two powerplay opportunities in the third period but were unable to convert against goaltender Logan Hallady, continuing Janesville's perfect 11-0-0 record when leading after two periods this season.

The victory was also Janesville's (25-23-3, 53 points) third in a row, inching them closer to the third-place Tomahawks (26-22-4, 56 points).

Johnstown finished the night 0-for-5 on the powerplay, while Janesville managed one goal on four powerplay attempts. Hallady stopped 27 of 27 shots in the win, while Okicki made 20 of 22 saves.

The teams will complete the series tomorrow at the War Memorial at 7 p.m. For tickets or additional information, call 814-536-GOAL (4625), visit www.JohnstownTomahawks.com or email info@JohnstownTomahawks.com.
