
Tomahawks Fall to Eagles 3-1, Split Weekend Series

The Johnstown Tomahawks fell to the Soo Eagles 3-1 on Saturday night at Pullar Stadium, finishing the weekend road trip with a 1-1 record.
Sandis Zolmanis got the Eagles on the board with a power-play goal at 4:23 of the first period. Denver Pierce and Bruno Birzitis assisted on his 7th goal of the season.
Dakoda Menslage tied the game, taking a pass from Cam Bleck above the face-off circles, before firing a shot into the upper corner of the net 3:27 into the second period. Zach Zech added the second assist on the goal. Menslage finished the weekend with three goals against the Eagles, and has four points in his last five games.
Soo regained the lead with 5:46 remaining in the third period, as Mitch Vanderburg scored. Keegan Miller and Darren Brady got the assists on the goal. Chase Matson set the final score with an empty net goal off the left post with 1:02 remaining in regulation.
Sean Keating earned his third-straight win for the Eagles, stopping 22 of 23 shots. Bednard took the loss, stopping 38 of 40 shots. Johnstown went 1-for-4 on the power-play and 6-for-7 on the penalty kill.
