Johnstown Tomahawks News Release

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. - The Johnstown Tomahawks continued their four-game winning streak with another come-from-behind victory Friday night at the Cambria County War Memorial, this time dispatching the Wenatchee Wild with a final score of 6-4.

The teams opened the first period exchanging scoring opportunities and thunderous hits at both ends of the ice, culminating in a six-man fight that developed around Tomahawks goaltender Jake Moore at 12:12 of the first. Minutes later, with Matt Meier in the penalty box serving a cross checking penalty, Wenatchee's Mike Coyne scored his first goal of the season, taking advantage of a crowded crease and sliding the puck under Moore's pad at 16:15.

Wenatchee carried the lead into the second period, but Joe Drabin tied the game for the Tomahawks at 2:25, receiving a long pass from Mitch Hall and burying a wrist shot past Gustaf Johansson's glove to earn his fifth goal of the season.

The stalemate did not last long, as Troy Loggins capitalized on a loose rebound in front of Moore at 6:05, earning his eighth of the year. At 10:22, Johnstown winger Matt Meier tied it back up as he skated through the neutral zone, past multiple defenders, to take place the puck in the top left corner of the net from the right face-off circle giving him his seventh goal of the season. The Wild took the lead back as Tanner Barnes capitalized on another rebound in front of Moore to put the puck into a wide-open net at 16:20 in the second. However, the Tomahawks weren't giving up as Brady Bender slap-passed the puck across the ice and Brandon Reinholz redirected it to find the opening between Johansson's skate and the post to earn his team-leading tenth goal of the season to make it 3-3 at 18:57 of the second period.

The Tomahawks gained their first lead of the game just 30 seconds into the third period making it 4-3 as Trevor Recktenwald received a pass from Shane Bednard into the slot to wrist the puck past Johansson's glove to pick up his second goal of the season. The lead held until 14:13, when Wenatchee's Matthew Nuttle capitalized on another loose rebound in front of Moore, beating the goaltender for his first of the season. Less than a minute later, Josh Bowes earned his own first goal of the year, jamming the puck past Johansson at 15:00. Shane Bednard added an empty net goal at 19:13, backhanding a clearing attempt from the far blue line into the open goal for his eighth goal of the year.

The Tomahawks wrap up the series against the Wild tomorrow evening at the War Memorial. The puck is set to drop at 7 p.m. as the Tomahawks welcome Boy and Girl Scouts from the community to participate in their second annual Scout Night.
