The Toledo Walleye and Head Coach Nick Vitucci have announced today that they have signed defenseman Brett Blatchford to a contract.
Blatchford, the Toledo St. Francis De Sales graduate, joins the Walleye following a four-year career at the University of Notre Dame. Brett finished his senior season with the Irish scoring four goals while adding 15 assists. This past season he received the Coaches Award for being the teams' Unsung Hero. In four seasons, Brett appeared in 153 games with Notre Dame, scoring six goals while adding 67 assists.
Brett also appeared in two games with the American Hockey League's Chicago Wolves at the end of last season. He also dressed in seven regular season games with the Idaho Steelheads, collecting an assist. Prior to Notre Dame, Brett skated with the Texas Tornado of the NAHL. In 2005-06, he led all NAHL defenseman in scoring with three goals and 46 assists. Blatchford appeared in two All-Star games while with the Tornado (2005 and 2006).
