Tobs Power Past SwampDogs

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Wilson Tobs popped seven extra base hits, including a two run homer by Justin Bellinger (Duke) in the seventh inning, to power past the SwampDogs 7-5 at The Swamp.

The Tobs pushed across four runs in the top of the first on the strength of four doubles but quickly relinquished the lead in the second, walking five SwampDogs to tie the game. Nick Maton (Eastern Illinois) started the scoring with a bases loaded single.

David Marriggi (Towson) settled in after the first inning and kept the game tied at four, while striking out six batters, when he exited after the sixth.

The Tobs flexed their power in the seventh as Bellinger's homer put them up for good before Cameron Balego (Mercyhurst) added a RBI double in the 8th.

The SwampDogs scored in the seventh when Dan Neff (Millersville) singled and stole second. Frankie Jezioro (Slippery Rock) plated him three pitches later with another single.

Rutty Jones (Elon) threw five scoreless inning out of the bullpen to earn the win while Sean Byrnes (Barton) threw three innings to get the save.

The SwampDogs are back at home for Leave it to Bieber Night against the Wilmington Sharks at 7:05pm. There will be a look-a-like contest along with various hijinks throughout the evening.
