Titans Split Doubleheader with Pittsfield

The Torrington Titans won a close game 2-1 in the first game of a doubleheader against Pittsfield. The win went to John Russell (UConn-Avery Point) and the loss to Dom Grillo. Titan's starter David Gerics (Pomona-Pitzer) went 5.1 innings, allowing just one run while striking out eight, to give him 35 strikeouts on the season.
In the second inning, Matt Morales singled in Tyler Lyne for Pittsfield. Torrington's center fielder Joe Paparelli (Bryant) hit a solo homer to left to tie it at one in the fourth. It was one of his two hits in the game and three on the night.
The Titans loaded the bases with none out in the bottom of the seventh. According to FCBL rules, doubleheaders are seven-inning games. Nick Lamberti (UConn) walked while pinch-hitting for Tyler Bindi (St. Mary's). Mike Conti (Fairfield) walked, and then Dean Lockery (CCSU) singled. Cody Doyle (Sacred Heart) flew out to right field, and Lamberti was thrown out at home trying to score. With two outs and Conti at third, Zach Wood (Bryant) singled and the game was over.
The Titans dropped the second game of a twin bill to an efficient Pittsfield Suns team, 6-3. The win went to Frank Lemieux, the loss to Colby Tollison (USC-Sumter), and the save to Austin Dick.
In the first inning, the Suns took a 3-0 lead. Ryan Olmo doubled in Tyler Lyne. Casey McCone was next up and slammed a two-run homer to deep center field.
In the third, the Titans used four walks, a sac fly, and a grounder to score two runs.
In the fifth, the Suns loaded the bases with none out against Colby Tollison on a hit batsman and two walks. A wild pitch and single brought home three runners for a 6-2 lead. Dan Schock (Sacred Heart) hit a solo home run in the bottom of the fifth to make it 6-3.
The Titans are next home on Sunday night against the Wachusett Dirt Dawgs at 6 PM.
