Torrington Titans News Release
For the 2014 summer season, the Titans have focused on recruiting players from top Division I schools. In addition, the Titans focused on recruiting the best talent that New England has to offer.
The University of Connecticut is noted for having one of the top collegiate baseball programs in the state of Connecticut. Some of the Titans' top prospects for the 2014 season include four players from UConn. : Taylor Olmstead, Zach Risedorf, Willy Yahn, and William Montgomerie. Titan's manager, Dan McNamara, says that "UConn does an excellent job recruiting some of the best players from within the state and our UConn guys are all Connecticut locals."
Taylor Olmstead, an outfielder from Greenwich High School, was drafted by the Texas Rangers in the 13th round of the Major League Baseball amateur draft straight out of high school last year.ÃÂ He decided to keep his commitment to UConn and play for coach Jim Penders instead.ÃÂ McNamara has said that, "Olmstead will be one of the top players in the FCBL this summer."
Willy Yahn, from Sharon, CT, is a solid infielder and also pitches. According to McNamara, "We're expecting big things from Yahn this summer and I think he has the potential to be drafted in the future. He is very athletic and is a gap to gap hitter, with pop in his bat."
Zach Risedorf is a catcher from Barkhamsted, CT.ÃÂ McNamara says that Risedorf "has the potential to be the team's starting catcher for the summer. He has quick release from behind the plate and has power potential in his hitting."ÃÂ
William Montgomerie is a RHP from Lakeville, CT. McNamara says that Montgomerie "has a great arm with a heavy sink in his repertoire and sits at 87-90."ÃÂ Risedorf, Montgomerie and Yahn played together growing up so the Titans are "expecting them to be able to work really well together on the field," according to McNamara.
Aside from the recent signings the Titans are focusing on their Hot Stove Dinner on March 15th, featuring special guest Bobby Valentine. The dinner will be held at the Cornucopia Banquet Hall in Torrington. Tickets are available at www.torringtontitans.com and are $45 for adults and $35 for children under the age of 12.
