Titans make splash with four signings for 2006-07

TRENTON, NJ (July 18, 2006) - The Trenton Titans announced on Tuesday that they have agreed to terms with forwards Brian McConnell and Peter Zingoni and defensemen Chris Cava and Peter Tormey for the 2006-07 season. Per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Cava, 25, signs on with Trenton after splitting last season between the San Diego Gulls and the Columbia Inferno. Acquired by the Gulls on February 24 in exchange for Inferno defenseman Jason Reimers, Cava totaled seven goals, 18 assists, 191 penalty minutes in 51 regular season games and one assist in four postseason contests. Now entering his sixth year of pro hockey, Cava spent three seasons with the Mississippi Sea Wolves (2002-05) setting career highs in 2004-05 with seven goals, 22 assists, 29 points and 214 PIM. The native of Thunder Bay, Ontario has also played for the ECHL's Toledo Storm and Roanoke Express.

McConnell, 23, is back with the Titans after registering seven goals, eight assists and 127 PIM in 70 games last year during his rookie season. Hailing from Norfolk, Massachusetts, McConnell was a four-year letterman at Boston University (2001-05) where he totaled 88 points (42g, 46a) and 277 penalty minutes over 149 games. McConnell, 6'0", 190 lbs, was originally a second round draft pick (#39 overall) of the Calgary Flames in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft.

Trenton also welcomes back Tormey, 25, for his second professional season after recording seven points (4g, 3a) and 30 PIM in 55 games during 2005-06. Last season the 6'4", 223-pound defenseman also received call-ups to the Cleveland Barons and Bridgeport Sound Tigers of the American Hockey League (AHL). Originally from Bourne, MA, Tormey played four years of collegiate hockey at the University of Massachusetts-Lowell (2001-05) amassing 18 points (4g, 14a) and 50 penalty minutes in 116 games.

Zingoni, 25, returns for his second season with the Titans after being limited to 16 games last year due to injury. A third-year pro, Zingoni skated in 32 games in 2004-05 with the Essen Mosquitoes of the 2. Eishockey-Bundesliga in Germany where he notched 20 goals, nine assists and 109 penalty minutes. The 6'1", 180 lb native of Bridgeport, CT played for four years (1999-2003) at Providence College totaling 81 points (34g, 47a) and 134 PIM in 127 games. A eighth round draft pick of the Columbus Blue Jackets in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft, Zingoni appeared in five games with the Syracuse Crunch (AHL) following the completion of his season tallying two goals and two assists.
