Orlando Titans News Release

BOSTON, MA -- Casey Powell scored four goals to lead the OrlandoTitans to a big 13-10 road win over the Boston Blazers on Saturday night. The win lifted the Titans to 8-4 on the season and solidified their hold on first place in the East Division; while the Blazers fell to 6-7.

Orlando jumped out early, grabbing a 5-2 lead in the first period behind a pair of goals from Powell and Mike McLellan, along with a single from rookie forward Jesse Guerin. But the Blazers came back in the second stanza, outscoring Orlando 4-1, including a goal by Gary Bining with 16 seconds left to knot the score at 6-6 at the half.

The teams traded three goals each in the third period, with Bill Greer's second goal of the game tying the contest at 9-9 with 1:02 remaining in the third period.

The fourth quarter would belong to the Titans. After Dan Dawson gave the Blazers a 10-9 lead in the first 30 seconds with his fifth goal of the game, Pat Maddalena tied it 10 seconds later with his first goal of the season. Orlando would take the lead for good two minutes later on a Mat McLeod goal and then Powell and Maddalena would go back-to-back as Orlando would take a 13-10 lead with four minutes remaining.

From there, the Titans and goalie Matt Vinc would keep the Blazers from scoring. For the game, Orlando would outshoot the Blazers, 44-43. Vinc stopped 33 of 44 shots to pick up his eighth win of the season.

Dawson would finish with five goals and a pair of assists for the Blazers, but the Titans were able to hold both Nick Cotter in check. In a pair of wins over the Titans earlier this year, Brenden Thenhaus and Cotter combined for 10 goals but Thenhaus did not play and Cotter was limited to a pair of assists and no goals.

Orlando once again showed a balanced scoring attack as seven different players found the back of the net. McLellan and Maddalena each posted six point nights with two goals and four assists. Defenseman Greer and two goals and an assist and forward Ryan Boyle had a goal and three assists.

With the win and losses by Philadelphia and Rochester, the Titans magic number for clinching a playoff spot in now one. The Titans (8-4) lead the East Division by 1.5 games over Toronto (7-6) and two and half games over Boston (6-7) and Buffalo (6-7).
