
Titans Fall to Pittsfield on Opening Night, 11-7

The Torrington Titans opened their 2016 FCBL season at home on Wednesday June 1 against the Pittsfield Suns. The Titans new roster and coaching staff was put to the test at Fuessenich Park, and the first game of the season for both teams proved to be an exciting one.
The starting pitchers were Jordan Muchin (Eastern Connecticut) for Pittsfield and Matt Nalbone (Mercy) for Torrington. Muchin ultimately picked up the win for Pittsfield and Nalbone took the loss for Torrington with a final score of 11-7 in favor of Pittsfield.
The Titans started the game off hot, scoring five runs in the first inning, two of which came off a two-run homerun by Mikey Arman (Kenyon). In the first two innings of the game, Nalbone struck out five hitters. Torrington held on to the lead up until the 4th inning when Pittsfield had back-to-back solo home runs and began to quickly close the gap. This sparked Pittsfield's offense to its 11-run total in the game. While their defense managed to hold the Titans to just two runs after the five they scored in the 1st inning.
In the end, Muchin pitched five innings for the Suns and Pittsfields relief pitchers closed out the final four innings. Nalbone pitched four innings for the Titans and was relieved by Jason Staub (Eastern Connecticut) who pitched two innings, Connor Lewis (Hartford) who pitched two innings,and Blair Lewis (Pittsburgh) who pitched one inning.
Alex Zachary (Eastern Connecticut) had a big night at the plate for the Suns, going 4-for-6 with a pair of singles, one double and a home run. For the Titans, Arman collected two hits in the form of a single and a first-inning home run. Michael Purcell (Rollins) also added a home run for the home team.
The Titans will look to mark this game up as a learning experience as they hit the road on Thursday June 2 to play the Wachusett Dirt Dawgs at 6:35pm. The Titans will be back at home on Friday June 3, taking on the Brockton Rox at 7pm at Fuessenich Park.
