Titans Cut Dirt Dawgs' Rally Short

Wachusett Dirt Dawgs News Release
LEOMINSTER, Mass. (Sunday, July 28, 2013). For eight innings, it appeared the Torrington Titans were going to cruise to an easy victory over the Wachusett Dirt Dawgs.
Yet the Dirt Dawgs made it interesting in the ninth by scoring three late runs, but eventually fell to the Titans 7-4.
Casey Jones (Elon) led the way for the Titans (17-23), going 3-for-5 with 3 RBIs and a homerun.
Torrington starter Max Quintana (Siena) had a strong performance on the mound, allowing one run on two hits over 6.2 innings. He moved to 2-0 with the win.
Starting pitcher Rob Bertucci (MIT) put in a solid five innings for Wachusett, allowing three runs - all in the first inning - off nine hits.
"Outside of the tough start, I felt like I really got command of my pitches over the innings. All I could do was look to pitch strikes to keep my team in the game."
This was Bertucci's first start in over a year.
"This was my first start since sophomore year, right after tommy john surgery. I pitched five and six innings in those two starts, and came out of the bullpen during the spring."
He took the loss on the afternoon, moving to 1-2 on the season.
Tyler Mikrut (Southern Indiana) led the Dirt Dawgs with two hits, while Tyler McVicar (Elon) and Josh Raymond (Judson) each had solo homeruns.
The Dirt Dawgs will look to get back in the win column tomorrow as they travel to Martha's Vineyard to take on the Sharks. First pitch is at 6:45 PM.
