Old Orchard Beach Raging Tide News Release
OLD ORCHARD BEACH, ME- The Old Orchard Beach Raging Tide (21-22) needed 13 innings to defeat the Brockton Rox (19-23) 7-6 at The Ballpark on Monday night. Graham McIntire (Concord, NH/Marist) scored on a wild pitch from third to seal the walk off victory.
Brockton got on the board early, striking for three runs in the first inning. Mitch Elliot (Wexford, PA/Xavier) hit a triple to right center that plated in Rob McCunney (Cohasset, MA/Forham), then he came in to score on a homerun to left by Lorenzo Papa (Stoneham, MA/Broward) that gave the Rox a 3-0 lead.
The Raging Tide responded with some offensive power of their own in the bottom half however, as a two out double by Dylan Begin (St. Albans, VT/UMass) drove in two runs to cut the deficit to one for the home side.
OOB threatened in the second, loading the bases with just one out, but Daniel Roche (Kendall Park, NJ/NJIT) struck out two consecutive batters to get the Rox out of the jam.
Both starting pitchers found their grooves, holding each other scoreless until the sixth inning when the Rox would extend their lead to 4-2 on a single to right center that score Papa from second. Brian Doran (Ayr, ONT/Maine) led the bottom half of the inning off with a triple, then came in to score on a sacrifice fly to right field by Fran Whitten (Westborough, MA/Maine). An error by the first baseman on an infield grounder by Graham McIntire (Concord, NH/Marist) brought home Sam Canales (Saco, ME/Bowdoin) from first to tie the ballgame at four a piece.
In the bottom of the seventh an error by relief pitcher Jamie Faber (Cohasset, MA/Union) would give the Tide their first lead of the contest that scored Phil Sciretta (Duxbury, MA/Virginia Tech) from third. OOB added another run in the next at bat, with Doran coming in on a sacrifice fly to center to give them a 6-4 advantage.
The Rox tied the game in the eighth on an infield single by Stephen Halibej (Whippany, NJ/NJIT), followed by a single to right field from Jack Curtis (Clermont, FL/Wake Forest). They threatened to retake the lead with the bases loaded, but Tyler Pogmore (Lebanon, CT/Roger Williams) came in to record a strikeout and get out of the jam.
Brockton had its best chance in extra innings when they stranded a runner on third, but Pogmore got Elliot to ground out to the shortstop to hold the deadlock score in the 11th.
The Tide seemed like they had the game in the bottom of the 11th with a fly to center, but a solid throw home by Brendan O'Brien got the tagging Pagano for a double play to end the inning.
McIntire had a one out walk, then advanced to third on an over throw to first by the pitcher to get in scoring position for the eventual walk off victory in the bottom of the 13th.
Harry Ridge (Yarmouth, ME/Bowdoin) went six innings, yielding six hits, four runs, while striking out three in the no decision. Pogmore had his longest outing of the season, tossing five innings, striking out six, and registering the win.
The Raging Tide will continue their home stand tomorrow as they play host to the first place Nashua Silver Knights at 7pm.
