
Tip Top Award Goes To Lowry

Brandon, Manitoba - A three year Western Hockey League veteran and former WHL Champion has been named January's Tip Top Tailors Player of the Month for the Brandon Wheat Kings.
20-year old Neepawa product Matt Lowry joins Andrew Clark, Jay Fehr and Scott Glennie as this year's recipients, capturing January's Award after helping the Wheat Kings to an impressive 12-2-1-0 record and to within striking distance f the front running Saskatoon Blades in the WHL's Eastern Division.
A member of the 2007 WHL Champion Medicine Hat Tigers, Lowry led Brandon in scoring last month with four goals and 25 points, while accumulating an impressive +16 rating.
Entering Tuesday night's game against the visiting Red Deer Rebels at Westman Place, Lowry has twelve goals and 59 points in 52 games. A former member of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League's Neepawa Natives, Lowry is currently two points shy of last year's career high of 61.
One of five Wheat Kings in the top eighteen in league scoring, Lowry is also third in the WHL in assists with 47, trailing Vancouver's Casey Pierro-Zabotel (62) and Brandon Kozun of Calgary (49). The other Wheat Kings that are currently sitting among the league leaders are Scott Glennie (6th), Jay Fehr (9th), Andrew Clark and Brayden Schenn (tied for 13th).
Since breaking into the WHL as an 18-year old rookie in 2005, Lowry has 46 goals and 141 points in 190 games.
In recognition of the monthly honour, Lowry will receive a shirt, tie and suit from Tip Top Tailors in the Shoppers Mall, the official menswear clothier of the Wheat Kings during this Friday night's game against the visiting Prince Albert Raiders.
Entering this week's play, the Wheat Kings sit second in the East Division with a record of 34-15-3-1, good for 72 points - six back of first place Saskatoon. As for the Conference, Brandon occupies third place.
Tuesday's game against the Rebels is the first of three on home ice this week. Brandon hosts the Raiders on Friday before closing out the home stand the following night against the Edmonton Oil Kings.
