Fort Wayne TinCaps News Release
FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Attendance is on the rise this season in Minor League Baseball, and the Fort Wayne TinCaps are at the forefront of the upward trend. While MiLB teams have seen a 6.3% increase over attendance from this time one year ago, Fort Wayne's attendance has risen 17.8% from last year. With 142,334 fans having passed through the gates at Parkview Field this season, the TinCaps are on pace for a record-setting year.
In 2011 through 29 games, 120,781 fans had seen a TinCaps game at Parkview Field, and that number has risen by 21,553 fans this year, even with one game having been rained out. Through 29 games, this year's attendance figure is the highest ever in the four-year history of Parkview Field.
"These numbers are a testament to the wonderful fans here in Fort Wayne and the surrounding communities," said TinCaps President Mike Nutter. "Taking in a game at Parkview Field is always a great place for families and friends to relax and enjoy our national pastime. We thank everyone who has helped to make this season a success and look forward to many more great games throughout the summer."
Across Minor League Baseball, clubs have drawn a total of 13,939,583 fans, 824,448 more than they did through May of last year. Eight of the 11 leagues didn't lose as many games to weather through May compared to last year, led by the Midwest League, which had 36 fewer postponements.
"Hopefully, the favorable weather that a majority of our leagues and clubs have experienced so far will continue throughout the summer," Minor League Baseball President Pat O'Conner said.
