Dayton Dragons News Release

Dayton, Ohio-The Lake County Captains came from behind to score three runs in the seventh inning and then add seven more in the eighth as they defeated the Dayton Dragons 14-6 on Friday. The Captains avoided a sweep of the three-game series and snapped the Dragons four-game winning streak before a crowd of 8,742 at Fifth Third Field.

The Dragons led 6-4 after six innings before the Captains exploded for 10 runs over the next two frames, taking advantage of four Dragons errors in those two innings to take a commanding lead. The Captains scored the tie-breaking run in the seventh on a two-out throwing error by Dragons third baseman Joe Terry, and got a big three-run double from Jordan Smith in the eighth that opened the door to the biggest inning of the season by a Dragons opponent.

The Dragons initially took the lead in the first inning on a long two-run home run to left field by Steve Selsky, his second homer of the year, to make it 2-0. Lake County responded with a four-run second, keyed by a two-run double by Robel Garcia, to take a 4-2 lead.

Dayton's Yovan Gonzalez belted a lead-off home run in the third inning, his fourth of the year, to cut the deficit to 4-3. Then in the fourth, the Dragons took the lead. Ryan Wright reached on an infield hit and stole second. The Dragons then collected three consecutive two-out, run scoring hits from Juan Silva, Gonzalez, and Juan Perez, to take a 6-4 lead.

Dragons starting pitcher Jacob Johnson left the game with the lead after six innings. He allowed five hits and four runs (three earned) with two walks and four strikeouts. Reliever Dan Jensen (3-6) replaced Johnson and was charged with the loss. Jensen worked one and two-thirds innings, allowing eight hits and nine runs (five earned) with no walks and two strikeouts.

The Dragons finished with eight hits, seven of which came in the first four innings. Gonzalez was 2 for 4 with a homer and two RBI.

The Dragons won two out of three in the series and have won their last three sets, going 6-3 over the period.

The Dragons (25-36) remain home to open a three-game series against the Bowling Green Hot Rods on Saturday (WONE 980 AM) at Fifth Third Field at 7:05 p.m. Daniel Tuttle (1-2, 4.50) will start for Dayton against Bowling Green's Felipe Rivero (5-4, 2.18). The game will be televised on WHIO Digital Channel 7.2 (Time Warner Cable channels 23 and 372) and MiLB.com.
