Great Lakes Loons News Release
MIDLAND, Mich. - Earlier today, Minor League Baseball (MiLB) announced that Lou E. Loon, the Great Lakes Loons Ambassador of Fun, has advanced to the Elite 8 of MiLB's Mascot Mania.
Mascot Mania, which launched in mid-May, is a MiLB led competition that pits 64 premier minor league mascots against each other in a bracket similar to the NCAA's March Madness Tournament. Mascots are paired in head-to-head match-ups and advance to the next round by receiving the most votes from their fans. One mascot will advance to the end and be crowned Minor League Baseball's best mascot.
"Lou E. can't stop smiling," Chris Mundhenk, the Loons VP of Marketing & Entertainment said. "He's been excited ever since he qualified for the tournament and has put a lot of effort into making sure our fans know about his goal to be crowned the best mascot in the minors. The Mascot Mania tournament is a great way for Loons fans to really get behind Lou E. and show the nation what he means to the entire Great Lakes Bay Region."
In his Elite 8 matchup, Lou E. Loon will face Snappy D. Turtle from the Beloit Snappers. Loons fans can vote through the Loons website (www.loons.com) or directly at (www.milb.com/milb/fans/mascot_mania/y2012/index.jsp). There is no limit to the number of votes fans can cast. Voting began earlier today for the Elite 8 match-ups and will continue until Monday night (June 11) at 11:59 ET.
In round one, Lou E. defeated Rowdie of the Indianapolis Indians, Big L of the Lexington Legends in round two, and most recently beat Crash the River Rascal of West Michigan in the contest's Sweet 16. Snappy D. will be the second mascot that Lou E. will face from the Midwest League.
Louis Entertainment Loon is the official mascot of the Great Lakes Loons and presented by MidMichigan Health. Lou E. landed at Dow Diamond on August 25, 2006. He was born on the shorelines of Lake Huron near Tawas Point and has migrated to Dow Diamond with the announcement of the Loons.
The Loons are a sixth-year Single-A partner of the Los Angeles Dodgers and in the middle of their 5th Anniversary Celebration, which kicked off in August 2011 and will continue throughout the 2012 season. For more information about the Loons and Dow Diamond, visit Loons.com or call 989-837-BALL.
