PORTLAND, Ore. ‚¬" The Portland Timbers kick off a busy July schedule Saturday as they play host to Sporting Kansas City at JELD-WEN Field at 8 p.m. (PT). Portland plays eight matches during the upcoming month, including three international exhibition matches.

Saturday ‚¬â„¢s contest against Sporting KC will be televised live on KPTV FOX 12 and in Spanish on estrellaTV, with live radio broadcasts on 750 AM The Game and in Spanish on La Pantera 940 AM.

Returning home from a road loss against FC Dallas over the weekend, the Timbers (5-7-3, 18pts) look to end a five-game winless stretch as they face a Sporting Kansas City (4-6-5, 17pts) side on a seven-match unbeaten streak. It ‚¬â„¢s the first of two regular-season meetings between Portland and Sporting KC in 2011.

The Timbers ‚¬â„¢ five home wins at JELD-WEN Field rank among league leaders ‚¬" only FC Dallas has more with six ‚¬" and the team is tied with the Houston Dynamo and FC Dallas for the most goals scored at home with 15. The Timbers this season are 3-1-1 against Eastern Conference clubs at JELD-WEN Field.

Moving up the Eastern Conference table, Sporting KC assembled a 3-0-3 record in June and enters the week in sixth place in the conference, but sits just two points back of Houston in fourth. During its seven-match unbeaten run, Sporting KC has out-scored opponents, 8-3. In its last match June 25, Designated Player Omar Bravo recorded a goal and an assist to lead Sporting KC to a 2-1 win over Vancouver Whitecaps FC at the newly-built LIVESTRONG Sporting Park.

Starting with Saturday ‚¬â„¢s match, the Timbers play their next three matches over a nine-day stretch, which also includes an international friendly against Mexican power Club America on Thursday, July 7 and Northwest rival Seattle Sounders FC on Sunday, July 10.

2011 MLS All-Star voting ends Tuesday, July 5; six Timbers on the ballot

It is getting down to the wire for fan voting to select players for the 2011 AT&T MLS All-Star Game on Wednesday, July 27, at Red Bull Arena. With six Timbers players on the ballot, fans have until Tuesday, July 5, to make their final votes.

The fan vote will determine the ‚¬Å“First XI ‚¬Â All-Stars; vote online at www.MLSsoccer.com. To vote by text, send a player ‚¬â„¢s last name to 22442; standard message and data rates apply. The player receiving the most text votes earns a ‚¬Å“First XI ‚¬Â spot.

The ‚¬Å“First XI ‚¬Â will be announced Sunday, July 10, likely on ESPN during halftime of the Timbers ‚¬â„¢ matchup against Seattle Sounders FC. The final list of 32 All-Stars (4 goalkeepers, 8 defenders, 13 midfielders and 7 forwards) will be announced on MLSsoccer.com on July 25.

The MLS All-Stars face English Premier League champ Manchester United in the 2011 AT&T MLS All-Star Game.

Timbers present $20,000 grant for new athletic complex for local college, youth athletes

At a special event on the Concordia University campus Monday, Timbers president Merritt Paulson presented a check for $20,000 to university representatives on behalf of the club, a contribution toward the new Concordia University & Community Athletic Complex in Portland.

In conjunction with the City of Portland and Portland Parks & Recreation, the Timbers made the donation as part of the club ‚¬â„¢s field grant program, through which the club contributes $50,000 annually to support community field development and youth programming in the Portland area.

The estimated $7.5 million complex, which will also be available for use by Northeast United/Alameda Soccer Club, will provide a home for Concordia ‚¬â„¢s men ‚¬â„¢s and women ‚¬â„¢s soccer teams, as well as the university ‚¬â„¢s baseball team, all of which previously had to travel to remote sites to play home games.

Timbers unveil six local clubs for 2011 Adopt-a-Club program

The Timbers introduced today the six local youth soccer clubs from throughout the greater-Portland area that are a part of the Timbers ‚¬â„¢ 2011 Adopt-a-Club program.

The selected clubs ‚¬" Hillsboro Futsal (Hillsboro, Ore.), Eastside United FC (Gresham, Ore.), Milltown United (NW Portland), Prairie Soccer Club (Brush Prairie, Wash.), Hillside Soccer Club (NW Portland) and Mount Tabor Soccer Club (SE Portland) ‚¬" are assigned a Timbers player who will help mentor and coach the youth players at the club over the course of the MLS season.

Together, the six clubs serve over 5,000 youth players, 600 of whom are scholarship players.

Timbers ‚¬â„¢ home match with Sounders FC July 10 kicks off at 1 p.m.

A reminder that kickoff for the Timbers ‚¬â„¢ home match against Seattle Sounders FC at JELD-WEN Field on Sunday, July 10, has been moved to 1 p.m. (PT).

The Cascadia derby will be televised live on ESPN, with local radio broadcasts on 750 AM The Game and in Spanish on La Pantera 940 AM.

The Timbers play host to three international exhibition matches during the month of July against renowned clubs from different parts of the world. The Timbers will face famed Mexican side Club América on Thursday, July 7, English Premier League club West Bromwich Albion on Wednesday, July 20 and successful Argentine club Independiente on Tuesday, July 26, all at JELD-WEN Field.
