Colorado Rapids News Release
COMMERCE CITY, Colo. (Tuesday, June 28, 2011) - The Colorado Rapids (5-5-7, 22 points) return to Dick's Sporting Goods Park to take on the Houston Dynamo at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 3. The game is part of the Rapids' 16th annual 4thFest, an Independence Day celebration featuring an outdoor festival before the match and fireworks afterwards.
This is the second matchup of the season between Colorado and Houston (4-6-7, 19 points), who sit at fourth in the Eastern Conference. The Rapids defeated the Dynamo in Texas with 84th minute heroics from Scott Palguta to edge the team up 2-1 on May 4. The Dynamo were last at DSGP in August of 2010, when Conor Casey played part in all three goals of the 3-0 shutout.
This week also features the World Cup of Wine and Beer. Hosted by Rapids players and coaches, fans are invited to the pitch at DSGP to taste beer provided by Heineken USA and Coors Light, as well as wine from various countries and food tastings from local Denver restaurants. Tickets to the event are $65, available on www.ColoradoRapids.com or by calling 303-727-3517, and all proceeds benefit Kroenke Sports Charities.
Yesterday, the Rapids visited the White House to be honored by President Barack Obama for their 2010 season and MLS Cup Championship, and to run a soccer clinic for children of military families on the South Lawn. For photos and video of the event, please contact David Lindholm (dlindholm@dsgpark.com, 303-727-3503) for FTP information.
Tickets to the July 3rd matchup between the Rapids and the Dynamo are still available, and can be purchased by calling 303-825-GOAL or visiting www.ColoradoRapids.com.
