Timbers Visit Miami FC for Two-Game Series
July 17, 2009 - USL First Division (USL-1)
Portland Timbers News Release
PORTLAND, Ore. - The Portland Timbers conclude their stretch of road matches in July with a two-game series against the Miami FC Blues on Friday at 5 p.m. (Pacific) and Sunday at 3 p.m. (Pacific). The series marks the first meetings of the season between the two sides.
Both matches against Miami will be broadcast live online at www.portlandtimbers.com, with a live video webcast available through USL Live - now a free service at www.usllive.com.
The Timbers are in position to reach the USL First Division's record for the longest, single-season unbeaten streak at 15 matches on Friday. The mark was set by the Montreal Impact in 2005, opening the campaign with a 10-0-5 record. Portland extended its current unbeaten run to 14 matches with a 2-1 win over the Austin Aztex on July 11.
Portland and Miami have split the all-time series between the two clubs, 3-3-1. Last season, the Timbers were 1-1-1 against the Blues, including a scoreless draw in Miami. The two sides conclude their three-game, regular-season series on Aug. 22 in Portland.
The Timbers return home after four straight road matches on Thursday, July 23, to play host to the Puerto Rico Islanders at PGE Park at 7 p.m. Portland then faces English Premier League club Burnley FC in an international exhibition match July 25. Tickets are available at the PGE Park box office, area Ticketmaster outlets, online at www.ticketmaster.com or by phone at (800) 745-3000.
ABOUT MIAMI FC BLUES
Miami closes out a four-game homestand with a pair of matches against the Timbers this weekend. In their previous game, the Blues defeated the Vancouver Whitecaps 2-1 at home on July 12, using goals from forward Alen Marcina and midfielder Leo Nunes. Miami will be without Marcina for Friday's contest due to a one-game, league-imposed suspension after being ejected from the match against Vancouver. Miami's roster features former Timbers midfielder Edwin Miranda (2004-06).
