Portland Timbers News Release
Portland, OR- The Timbers (11-7-0, 33pts) close out the month of July with a key two-game trip to Calgary and Milwaukee this week, as the race for the Western Conference is beginning to heat up.
TIMBERS AT CALGARY - Wednesday, July 28, 6 p.m. (Pacific) Portland makes its first visit to Calgary this season, taking on the Mustangs (2-13-3, 9pts) at McMahon Stadium on Wednesday evening. The two sides have met once prior, a game that the Timbers won 2-1 on May 13 at PGE Park. Calgary is riding a six-game losing streak entering tomorrow's match and sits at the bottom of the conference standings. The Mustangs have allowed 35 goals this season, tied for second-most in the A-League.
TIMBERS AT MILWAUKEE - Saturday, July 31, 5:35 p.m. (Pacific) The last time the Timbers made the trip to Milwaukee (8-8-3, 27pts) on June 23, they watched as the match nearly spiraled into chaos when Lee Morrison and Gavin Wilkinson were sent off with red card ejections late in the match and the Wave United rallied for a 2-1 victory. With the season series tied 1-1, Portland will look to turn back a Milwaukee club that has lost only one game in its last 10 contests.
TIMBERS FELLED Portland defender Aaron Heinzen will likely sit out the Calgary match with a sprained ankle ... defender Gavin Wilkinson did not make the trip with a pulled hamstring.
IN THE COMMUNITY Josh Saunders, Shawn Saunders and Scot Thompson made a trip to the Wattles Boys and Girls Club in Southeast Portland on Monday afternoon, teaching soccer tricks and participating in drills with a P.E. class. Afterwards, the three players handed out Timbers tickets to the kids in attendance.
