Toronto Lynx News Release
Match Summary: Riding a 2-game winning streak, the Toronto Lynx continued their road trip through Alberta tonight taking on Edmonton FC at Foote Field in Edmonton. Playing their second game in as many nights, the Lynx conceded an early goal as Edmonton's lightning quick, Sean Fraser made a superb run before crossing to Sipho Sibiya for the easy finish in the 13th minute. The score looked like it would hold when Lynx' defender, Lewis Blois was sent off in the 65th minute, but Toronto refused to quite and were rewarded as Charles Gbeke managed to equalize at the 68 minute mark, sending the match to overtime. With the three points on the line, striker John Barry Nusum had a wonderful opportunity to win the game for Toronto, but his shot from close range sailed over the bar. The miscue would come back to haunt the Lynx when Edmonton was awarded a corner nearly 3 minutes into injury time in the second half of overtime. The original cross was scrambled clear, but former Lynx midfielder, Nikki Vignjevic, fired it back into the box where Chris Delvin was able to bang it home through a crowd. "We made the mistakes and have only ourselves to blame for the result," said a very disappointed Lynx Head Coach, Duncan Wilde. "We had more than enough chances to win the game but didn't make good use of them. In the end, I was very frustrated with how the outcome was determined." The loss drops the Lynx' record to 7-11-1, while the victory, Edmonton FC's first since the United Soccer Leagues took over operation of the Club, improved their record to 3-11-6. The Lynx return to the friendly confines of Centennial Park Stadium to begin a stretch of six home games during the month of August when they take on the Virginia Beach Mariners on Civic Holiday Monday, August 2nd with a 6pm kickoff.
Final Score: Edmonton 2 Toronto 1 OT
Scorers: Edm: Sibiya (Fraser) 13th minute, Devlin (Vignjevic) 110th minute Tor: Gbeke (unassisted) 68th minute
The Lynx next home game is Monday, August 2nd at 6:00pm versus the Virginia Beach Mariners.
