Timbers To Host First-round Playoff Match On September 16

PORTLAND, Ore. - The Portland Timbers will host their first-round, home playoff match on Sunday, Sept. 16, at PGE Park at 5 p.m., it was announced today. A first-round opponent will be determined by the United Soccer Leagues at a later date.
Playoff tickets, starting at $12, are on sale at the PGE Park box office, area Ticketmaster outlets, online at www.ticketmaster.com and by phone at (503) 224-4400.
With a 2-2 draw against the Minnesota Thunder on Aug. 16, the Timbers were the first team in the league to clinch a playoff spot this season. Over the weekend, Portland cemented a top-four seed with a 2-1 win over Miami FC. Since joining the USL First Division in 2001, the Timbers have advanced to the playoffs in five of seven seasons. Their last trip to the postseason was in 2005.
The top eight teams in the USL First Division advance to the playoffs. Currently, six teams, including the Timbers, have clinched a postseason berth. There are four teams still battling for the final two spots, including the Vancouver Whitecaps, Carolina RailHawks, Charleston Battery and Miami FC.
The USL First Division playoffs begin on Sept. 14, with the first two rounds consisting of a two-game, aggregate-goal series. The 2007 USL First Division champion will be determined in a one-game final hosted by one of the two finalists.
Timbers season ticket holders should contact ticket representative Dan Zusman to take advantage of special discounts on postseason tickets.

Portland makes another trip to the East Coast to battle the Carolina RailHawks on Saturday at SAS Soccer Park at 4:30 p.m. (Pacific). The match will be broadcast live on www.portlandtimbers.com.
