June 30, 2005 - USL First Division (USL-1)
Portland Timbers News Release

PORTLAND, Ore. - The Portland Timbers (5-4-3, 18pts) host two of the top clubs in the USL First Division this week when Montreal (5-0-4, 19pts) comes to town on Thursday, June 30, and Vancouver brings its show to PGE Park on Saturday, July 2.

In other news, the Timbers will host their archrivals, the Seattle Sounders, in the third round of the U.S. Open Cup on Tuesday, July 12. With a possible MLS match-up on the line, the Timbers will look to avenge last year's exit from the playoffs that came at the hands of the Sounders.

TIMBERS VS. MONTREAL - THURSDAY, JUNE 30 - 7 p.m.

The last unbeaten club on the circuit this season, Montreal won the 2004 A-League Championship and features many of the same players from that team ... goalkeeper Greg Sutton has allowed a stingy two goals this season through eight matches, posting a 0.25 goals-against average in that span ... the Impact have scored only 12 goals this season, second-to-last in the league ... Portland gained the lone decision between the two clubs, winning 3-0 at PGE Park in 2002.

TIMBERS VS. VANCOUVER - SATURDAY, JULY 2 - 7 p.m.

The Timbers fell 3-2 to the Whitecaps at Swangard Stadium on June 16, allowing the game-winning goal in stoppage time just seconds after Edwin Miranda equalized the match for the Timbers ... the Whitecaps tied Seattle twice over their last two matches ... Saturday's game will be televised locally on Comcast's CNW 14 and will later be available "On Demand" ... the match is the third of eight Cascadia Cup battles with Northwest rivals Seattle and Vancouver this season ... Portland is 1-1 in the derby thus far.

U.S. OPEN CUP: IT'S SEATTLE

With the Sounders' 3-1 win over Salinas Valley in Wednesday's second round U.S. Open Cup match in Seattle, the Timbers will do battle with the Sounders in the third round at PGE Park on Tuesday, July 12. Longtime rivals, the Sounders and Timbers will add to their storied series with a likely chance to play an MLS team on the line in the fourth round. Tickets are now on sale at the Timbers box office and at area Ticketmaster outlets.

TIFFENY AT THE TIMBERS

U.S. Women's National Team star and Portland native Tiffeny Milbrett will be on hand for Saturday's match versus Vancouver. Milbrett, who recently rejoined the national team after playing professionally in Sweden, will sign pre-game autographs on the main concourse for fans in attendance.

UPCOMING PROMOTIONS

PGE Park is always the place to be on Thursday night, and this tonight's match vs. Montreal will be no different, with a sunny and warm forecast ... the first 1,000 entrants into the Vancouver match on Saturday will receive a complete set of complementary Timbers trading cards.

PREMIERSHIP TO PORTLAND

With ticket sales for the Widmer Sunderland match moving along at a brisk rate, the Timbers would like to remind all fans planning on attending the English exhibition on July 23 to buy their tickets in advance to avoid lines and take advantage of several group and package options offered for the event. For more information, contact the Timbers ticket office at (503) 553-5555.

WILKINSON OUT

Timbers defensive leader Gavin Wilkinson will be held out of Thursday's match with a back injury after starting in all 11 matches thus far.
