
Timbers Host Earthquakes in U.S. Open Cup, T2 Take on Sounders FC 2 in Providence Park Doubleheader

PORTLAND, Ore. - As part of a doubleheader on Tuesday, June 14, at Providence Park, the Portland Timbers will play host to the San Jose Earthquakes in the fourth round of the 2016 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup at 7:30 p.m. (Pacific) and T2 will play host to Seattle Sounders FC 2 at 4:30 p.m. (Pacific), with one ticket gaining admission to both the Timbers U.S. Open Cup match and T2 game.
Tickets for the doubleheader at Providence Park are included as part of the Timbers Annual Membership. Individual tickets go on sale to the public at 10 a.m. (Pacific) on Thursday, May 26. Individual tickets are available online at www.timbers.com, by phone at (888) 736-6849 or at the Providence Park box office. A presale for members of the Timbers Annual Member Wait List, Timbers Annual Members, and T2 and Portland Thorns FC season ticket holders will take place on Wednesday, May 25, online at www.timbers.com.
The T2 match included in the June 14 doubleheader originally was scheduled to be played at Merlo Field on the campus of the University of Portland at 7 p.m. that evening. All ticket holders for the T2 match can redeem their existing ticket for a general admission ticket to the doubleheader at the Providence Park box office at any time.
All 17 U.S.-based clubs from Major League Soccer, including the Timbers, enter the 2016 U.S. Open Cup - the 103rd edition of the tournament - in the fourth round. The U.S. Open Cup, recognized as U.S. Soccer National Club Championship, is an annual competition open to all amateur and professional soccer teams affiliated with U.S. Soccer. Founded in 1914, the U.S. Open Cup will be conducted on a single-elimination, one-game knockout basis utilizing a tiered-bracket format.
The winner of the U.S. Open Cup earns a berth in the 2017-18 CONCACAF Champions League, receives $250,000 and will have its named engraved on the historic Dewar Challenge Trophy, one of the oldest nationally contested trophies in American team sports.
