Portland Timbers News Release
PORTLAND, Ore. - Two days before their anticipated match against England's Coventry City of the Coca-Cola Championship, the Portland Timbers are "hiding" 50 special-offer Nike soccer balls around Portland early Thursday morning.
Each of the specially marked balls is good for two complimentary tickets to the Timbers match against Coventry at PGE Park on Saturday, July 8. The balls are inscribed with the wording, "You Just Scored," with instructions on how to present the soccer ball at the PGE Park box office for two free tickets to the match. Lucky winners will be able to keep the high-quality Nike ball as a souvenir.
The hidden balls will be placed at assorted businesses, restaurants and other strategic places around downtown Portland and the surrounding area.
The Timbers are offering another unique way to win tickets for the match. The team has filled one of the PGE Park ticket booths with Nike soccer balls. Fans can enter their guess as to how many soccer balls are in the booth, located at 18th & SW Morrison Ave., for their chance to win four tickets to the Coventry City match, autographed soccer balls from both teams and the opportunity to be included in the Widmer on-field halftime promotion for the July 8 match.
Fans can register their guesses at www.pgepark.com.
Tickets for the match, which is presented by Widmer Brothers, range from $15-$30 and are available at area Ticketmaster outlets, by phone at (503) 224-4400, on-line at www.pgepark.com or at the PGE Park box office. Discounted group packages are available by calling (503) 553-5555.
Kickoff for the Coventry City match is set for 7 p.m. Gates open at 5:30 p.m.
