July 4, 2006; Miami, FL- Miami FC lost to Charleston Battery 1-0 Tuesday night at Tropical Park Stadium. The South Floridian squad lost on what was a magical night for their supporters, as a beautiful fireworks show (presented by Coca Cola) after the match, capped up the 4th of July evening for the 2,932 in attendance.

The first half was difficult for Miami FC, as they faced a team that arrived to South Florida with one objective in mind, defending. Although Miami tried to find open spaces, all they found was a well put Battery defense that denied any opportunity Mario Rodriguez, Zinho, and Romario wanted to generate. Regardless, Romario was close to opening the score on a magnificent individual play in the 25th minute, but his shot went wide.

In the second half, Miami FC kept trying to find their opponents goal trying to explode Walter Ramirez' speed from the left side, but his crosses never found his teammates. At the 80th minute of play, Ben Hollingsworth scored the only goal of the match, when he took advantage of one of the few Charleston Battery counterattacks. From then on, the visiting side defended with up to 8 players in their area, and made it impossible for the South Floridians to get a shot a tying the match.

Next up for Miami FC is on the road against the Rochester Rhinos, on Friday, July 14.
