Timbers Earn 2-2 Draw with Pair of Second-Half Goals against Toronto FC at 2023 Coachella Valley Invitational

INDIO, Calif. - Nathan Fogaça and Evander scored a pair of second-half goals to help the Portland Timbers earn a 2-2 draw against Toronto FC in their second match of the 2023 Coachella Valley Invitational preseason tournament on Wednesday afternoon.

After trailing 2-0 at the half-time mark, the Timbers earned a come-from-behind draw this afternoon, remaining undefeated in the preseason tournament. Fogaça opened the scoring for Portland in the 68th minute to put the Timbers on the board, just before Evander tallied the second goal in today's midweek matchup. It was Evander's second goal in 60 minutes played in Green and Gold after making his competitive match debut with the Timbers on Feb. 12 against LA Galaxy. Notably, Evander tallied his second goal just one minute after entering the pitch off the bench.

Today's Firsts

Fogaça scored his first goal of the preseason tournament today. Dawson McCartney tallied his first assist. Three of Portland's four 2023 MLS SuperDraft picks made their preseason debuts in today's match - Ryan Bilichuk, Tyler Clegg and Jaden Jones-Riley.

Goal-Scoring Plays

TOR - Bernardeschi (penalty kick), 2nd minute: The Timbers conceded a foul in the box, resulting in a Toronto FC penalty kick. Federico Bernardeschi stepped up and converted the attempt into the lower right side of the goal.

TOR - Osorio (Insigne), 33rd minute: Insigne dribbled down the left side toward the endline and slid the ball near the penalty spot where Osorio shot the ball into the lower-right corner of the goal.

POR - Fogaça (McCartney), 68th minute: Dawson McCartney dribbled down the left side of the field and slipped a pass into the 18-yard box where Fogaça took a shot and scored into the lower-left corner of the goal.

POR - Evander, 76th minute: Evander received a cross from the right wing that took a deflection off a Toronto defender. Off of the rebound, the midfielder finished the ball into the left side of the goal.

Next Game

The Timbers will close out the preseason tournament with a final match on Saturday, Feb. 18, against New York City FC; kickoff is set for 12 p.m. (Pacific).
