PORTLAND, Ore. - The Portland Timbers and SolarWorld, one of the largest solar energy companies in the world, announced today a new multi-year partnership that will feature SolarWorld as the official jersey sponsor for the Timbers U-23s, the organization's new development team.
The Timbers U-23s will debut their new uniforms, featuring the SolarWorld name and logo on the front of the jersey, Saturday when they kick off their inaugural season in the Premier Development League.
"We are pleased to announce our partnership with SolarWorld and their direct support of the Timbers' development team, the Timbers U-23s," said Ryan Brach, Timbers senior vice president of business development. "SolarWorld is a trend-setting company in the energy industry and has demonstrated a strong commitment to the greater-Portland community."
"A relationship with the Portland Timbers makes perfect sense for us," said Vice President Bob Beisner. "Soccer is one of the fastest-growing sports in the world and its appeal is universal; in keeping with SolarWorld's rapidly spreading worldwide reach. The relationship also fits SolarWorld's world headquarters country of Germany, a nation that teems with soccer fans.
"With our North America headquarters now in Hillsboro, SolarWorld is committed to investing in the life of the metro-area community."
The Timbers U-23s open their PDL season Saturday against the Victoria Highlanders at the Tualatin Hills Recreation Center in Beaverton, Ore., at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the door or through the PGE Park reception office near the corner of SW 20th Ave. and SW Morrison St. in downtown Portland.
