Portland Timbers News Release
PORTLAND, Ore. - The Portland Timbers have acquired goalkeeper Chase Harrison and forward Jamil Walker as part of a three-team trade involving the Timbers, Rochester Rhinos and Carolina RailHawks, it was announced today. As part of the deal, the Timbers sent midfielder Andrew Gregor to Rochester. All transactions are pending USSF approval.
Rochester first acquired Walker from Carolina in a trade for forward Hamed Diallo. Portland then acquired both Walker and Harrison from Rochester in exchange for Gregor.
"Through this trade, we receive two quality players with significant experience," said Gavin Wilkinson, Timbers head coach and general manager. "Jamil gives us a different approach up top and Chase has proved himself at this level and has the ability to be a No. 1 goalkeeper in this league."
Walker, 27, played 334 minutes over 11 matches and tallied one goal and one assist with the RailHawks this season. Prior to joining Carolina, Walker, a native of Pittsford, N.Y., played five seasons in Major League Soccer with the San Jose Earthquakes (2003-04) and D.C. United (2005-07), compiling seven goals and eight assists in 70 matches.
Harrison, 24, joined Rochester last season after playing his rookie season with Real Salt Lake of MLS in 2006. With Rochester in 2007, the Huntington, W.V., native assembled a 7-5-6 record, a 1.28 goals-against average and two shutouts in 18 matches. He has not made an appearance with Rochester this season.
Gregor, 32, played in 50 matches, totaling 4,116 minutes, 10 goals and eight assists in three seasons with the Timbers (2004; 2007-08). He led the Timbers in scoring in 2007, logging eight goals and five assists to earn all-league honors.
"Gregor has been a class professional during his time with the Timbers," said Wilkinson. "We thank him for what he has contributed to this organization, both on and off the field, during his three seasons here in Portland."
The Timbers play host to the Puerto Rico Islanders at PGE Park on Thursday at 7 p.m.
