NORWICH, CT - The Connecticut Tigers (25-21) faltered in game two of their series with the Batavia Muckdogs, losing 9-1.
Austin Sodders was nearly perfect tonight, pitching three scoreless innings for the Tigers. The only baserunner to get on reached on an error in the third. Sodder's scoreless inning streak currently stands at nine consecutive innings.
The Muckdogs benefited from a controversial call in the fourth inning with Walker Olis at the dish. It seemed that Olis had struck out to end the inning but the home plate umpire ruled that Olis had fouled it off. Olis eventually reached on a strikeout, wild pitch. One pitch later, Eric Gutierrez hit a towering home run down the left field line to make it 2-0 Batavia.
The Tigers answered in the bottom of the inning, Daniel Pinero lifted a sacrifice fly to center to bring in Josh Lester from third. Later in the frame, Connecticut had runners at second and third with two outs. Brady Policelli cracked a line drive to left field but it hung up for the left fielder to make the play.
Batavia responded in the fifth, scoring three runs in the frame. Eric Gutierrez capped the scoring in the inning with a two-run ground-rule double to left field. The double pushed the Muckdogs lead to 5-1.
In the seventh the Muckdogs continued to pile on with a three-run frame, making it 8-1 Batavia.
The Muckdogs force a rubber game tomorrow at 7:05 p.m. The Tigers try to keep their undefeated streak alive at home, winning every series at Dodd Stadium this season.
