LOWELL- MASS - The Connecticut Tigers (15-8) were unable to complete the sweep against the Lowell Spinners (14-9), affiliate of the Boston Red Sox, losing 4-1. The loss snaps the Tigers season long five game win streak
In the second inning the Tigers scored first with a sacrifice fly off the bat of Tigers third basemen Hunter Swilling. The Tigers loaded the bases before Swilling hit a deep fly ball to left field, Pinero scored from third to give Connecticut a 1-0 lead.
Locke St. John pitched well in the first four innings for the Tigers, the southpaw struck out six batters and maintained a 1-0 lead as he came back out for the fifth. The Spinners though strung together four consecutive hits with two outs to take a 4-1 lead against St. John and the Tigers. The big blow was a two-run double off the bat of Tucker Tubbs. St. John finished the game working five innings, allowing eight hits and struck out six.
Bryan Garcia made his professional debut with a scoreless inning in the sixth. Garcia picked up his first professional strikeout against Victor Acosta to start the sixth. Clate Schmidt followed up Garcia's outing with a scoreless inning of his own. Schmidt struck out two in his 1-2-3 stint.
