Tiger-Cats Sign Defensive Backs Tisdale and Ellis

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats announced Sunday that the football club has signed international free agent defensive backs Geoff Tisdale and Dominique Ellis.

Tisdale, 31, started four games for the Saskatchewan Roughriders in 2015, registering seven defensive tackles and one pass knock down. A veteran of eight CFL seasons (2008-15), the 5-11, 195-pound native of Pacoima, California, has appeared in 118 career games (115 starts), with the Tiger-Cats (2008-10, 2012), Calgary Stampeders (2011), Montreal Alouettes (2013-14) and Roughriders (2015).

Tisdale has accumulated 298 defensive tackles, 29 interceptions, 55 pass knock downs, three quarterback sacks, five tackles for loss, three fumble recoveries, one forced fumble and five defensive touchdowns (four interception returns, one fumble return) throughout his CFL career. The Pittsburg State product was named a CFL All-Star in 2013 after leading the league with seven interceptions, and is also a two-time East Division All-Star (2013, 2014).

Ellis, 26, appeared in all 18 games with the Montreal Alouettes last season, starting 13 times and posting 45 defensive tackles, two interceptions, three pass knock downs, two tackles for loss and one fumble recovery. He attended Montreal's training camp in 2016 and was released yesterday (June 18). The 5-11, 185-pound native of Wendell, North Carolina, has appeared in 27 games with the Alouettes during his two-year CFL career. Prior to joining the CFL, Ellis spent time with the NFL's Kansas City Chiefs and Buffalo Bills after three years at South Carolina State University (2009-11).
