July 12, 2022 - Texas Collegiate League (TCL)
Victoria Generals News Release

After a big win in Seguin last night against the River Monsters, the Generals made their way down to the Bayou to take on the Baton Rouge Rougarou. The Generals are on a five game win streak and were looking to make it six tonight, but the Rougarou looked to end their streak in the first game of a two-game series.

The Generals bats were hot last night in Seguin and were hoping they would stay hot as they took on the Rougarou. In the top of the first, the third baseman for the Generals, Adam Becker, helped the Generals get on the board first with an RBI single that brought in the Generals left fielder Brandon Galindo. The Rougarou could not respond in the bottom of the first as the Generals defense backed up Parker Bigham on the mound who handed out four strikeouts and allowed eight hits during five innings played.

The outfield was hot early in this ball game for the Generals defense as Samuel Benjamin, the TCL Hitter of the Week and Generals centerfielder, and the right fielder Reed Spenrath got some outs to have the Rougarou remain scoreless for two straight innings which made the score 1-0. Shortly after in the top of the third, the Rougarou held the Generals and got hot at the plate in the bottom of the third as they took the lead after a two run RBI which made the score 2-1 going into the fourth inning.

The Generals struggled at the plate, but the Rougarou were just getting started as they did everything to hand the Generals a loss. After the Generals went down in order in the top of the fourth, the Rougarou managed to extend their lead as they added another run, but did not stop there as in the the Generals went down in order for the second time in the top of the fifth and the Rougarou added two more runs from a sacrifice fly ball to right field and a solo home run to extend their lead 5-1.

Kameron Snodgrass came in on the mound for the Generals to hopefully hold the Rougarou from scoring any more runs and to give the offense a chance to comeback in this ball game. Both teams would remain scoreless for the sixth and seventh innings. Despite the Generals having bases loaded in the top of the seventh, the Rougarou's defense held them as they looked to hold onto their lead. In two innings played, Snodgrass threw two strikeouts and only allowed one hit with no runs earned.

This game took a quick turn in the top of the eight as the Generals catcher Angel Mendoza hit a Grand Slam to tie the game 5-5. Grand Slams seem to be a theme for the Generals as Becker hit one last night in the eighth as well against the River Monsters. A new addition to the team, pitcher Cole Payne, came into the game in the bottom of the eighth as he handed out three strikeouts, one hit, and no earned runs which helped hold the Rougarou as both teams went scoreless in the ninth inning.

The game went to extra innings as the Generals hoped to pull off a late comeback and get their sixth straight win as they stand in first place in the second half of TCL play. In the tenth inning, there was a power outage at the stadium which paused game play and the decision was made to end the game for everyone's safety. The game resulted in a tie as the final score was 5-5.

The Generals will play game two of the two-game series against the Baton Rouge Rougarou tomorrow night in Baton Rouge. Following tomorrow's game, the Generals will stay in Louisiana for a two-game series against the Acadiana Cane Cutters. The Generals will be back home on Saturday as they will take on the Brazos Valley Bombers on Strike Out Cancer Night presented by Citizens Medical Center.
