
Tide's Comeback Falls Short to Sharks

OLD ORCHARD BEACH, ME- The Old Orchard Beach Raging Tide's (8-8) comeback fell short as they were defeated by the Martha's Vineyard Sharks (12-6) on Saturday night at The Ballpark. Phil Sciretta (Duxbury, MA/Virginia Tech) went 2-3 with one RBI and a base on balls in the loss.
Both teams exchanged runs in the third inning, but the Sharks erupted for four runs in the fifth inning to take the lead for good. Two hitters advanced on a hit by pitch to start of the inning, then a single by Donnie Cimino (Westwood, NJ/Wesleyan) scored Dylan Tice (Perkasie, PA/IUP) and Nick Sell (Wexford, PA/Seton Hill) crossed home an error. Two more runs came in for the away side to give them a comfortable 5-1 lead.
The Raging Tide cut the deficit in the bottom of the eighth however when Sciretta plated in Matt Pagano (Cranston, RI/Marist) on a single to right field.
During the ninth inning OOB threatened with a runner on base but grounded out into a double play to end the threat.
Michael Franzese (Anaheim Hills, CA/Golden West) suffered the loss on the bump after tossing 4.1 innings, yielding six hits, three earned runs, while walking six.
Trevor Breton (Enfield, CT/WNEU) got the victory for the Sharks, tossing six innings, giving up four hits, and striking out eight.
The Raging Tide also closed out their previous played game that was cut short due to darkness prior to tonight's contest which resulted in 4-3 loss at the hands of Martha's Vineyard.
Old Orchard Beach will return to the diamond tomorrow as they travel down I-95 to take on the Seacoast Mavericks at pm. The game will be played at Marshwood High School.
