The Pittsfield Suns (9-8) went on the road to face the North Shore Navigators(9-5) for a tough doubleheader. The Suns gave it all they could and will be going into their off day on Saturday having split two games with the best team in the league. As per the league rules, both games of the doubleheader were seven inning contests. The Suns rode an early offensive outburst in the first three innings to come out on top 6-3 and then were unable to string together hits in game 2, falling2-0.

Christian Lavoie (UMass Lowell) got his first win of the season, pitching six innings and allowing seven hits, two earned runs, and striking out five. Lavoie's effort was buoyed by runs in the first three inning by a red-hot offense. The Suns played some ABC baseball to bring in the first run. After a Morgan Phillips (College of Charleston) walk and a Frank Crinella (Merrimack College) pop out, Phillip stole second, advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored the games opening run on a Ryan Deitrich (Duke University) ground out to short.

The Suns big offensive outburst game in the second inning, in which they scored four runs on four hits and two walks. The big hit in the inning came via Kyle Singleton (Northeastern Oklahoma State), who hit a two-out, two run scoring single.

The Suns scored their sixth run on a John Kinne RBI single in the third inning.

Lavoie and Chris Carmain (Northeastern University)combined to shut the Navigators down for the rest of the game. Carmain came in for the seventh inning to register his first save of the season.

Game two did not have the same offensive fireworks for the Suns, but that is not to say that they did not have their chances. Despite being shut out the Suns were able to put nine men on base in the shortened seven inning game but left eight men on base.

Josh Martin (Sacred Heart)and Mike Geanellis (UMass Amherst) each tossed three innings of one run ball to keep the Suns in the game but it was not enough.

The Suns get the day off Saturday, June 29th and return to action Sunday, the 30th against the Wachusett Dirt Dawgs (3-11).
