July 31, 2012 - Futures Collegiate Baseball League (FCBL)
Old Orchard Beach News Release
OLD ORCHARD BEACH, ME- The Old Orchard Beach Raging Tide cannot contain an early lead, and fall to the Pittsfield Suns 5-4. Joey Royer (Windham, ME/University of New Haven) went six innings, giving up just three hits. Royer has pitched well since returning from injury, allowing just two earned runs with six strikeouts in 12 innings of work.
The Tide got on the board first in the second inning scoring one run on a Michael Cleary (West Boylston, MA/Southern Connecticut University) triple, and then Cleary crossed the plate on a fielding error by the Suns. Another costly fielding error in the third inning would bring across two more runs for OOB increasing the lead to 4-0.
The lead would hold until the eighth inning, as Pittsfield was able to get in a groove and pick up four runs to tie the ballgame.
The Suns would score the winning run in the top of the ninth on a two out single by Chad Funkhouser (Poqouson, VA/Brevard College).
The Raging Tide will start their longest road trip of the season tomorrow night as they take on the North Shore Navigators, game time scheduled for 7pm.
