Tide Can't Stay Afloat, Fall to Dirt Dawgs 9-3

Old Orchard Beach Raging Tide News Release

OLD ORCHARD BEACH, ME- The Old Orchard Beach Raging Tide (4-5) were unable to contain the Wachusett Dirt Dawgs (2-6) bats, falling 9-3 on Thursday night at The Ballpark. The victors had two, four run innings in the sixth and ninth to make the game out of reach.

OOB tacked on the first run of the contest in the first inning with a triple by Matt Pagano (Cranston, RI/Marist), who scored on an infield single by Phil Sciretta (Duxbury, MA/Virginia Tech). The Dirt Dawgs tied it in the top of the third as Ryan Beal (Goffstown, NH/CCSU) drove in John Jennings (Newton, MA/UMass Amherst) on a sacrifice fly to center.

Wachusett tacked on four runs in the top of the sixth to extend their lead on costly miscues by the Tide defense in the infield.

Despite the home side plating home two runs in the eighth, the Dirt Dawgs would pull the game out of reach in the top of the ninth and adding four more to their total, 9-3.

The Raging Tide comeback fell short in the ninth despite stranding two runners on base, while Michael Yerina (Trumball, CT/SCSU) struck out three to calm the Tide bats.

Joey Royer (Westbrook, ME/New Haven) suffered the loss, tossing five innings, yielding five hits, five earned runs, while striking out four.

Sciretta was the lone multi-hit batter for OOB, going 2-4 with one RBI. Skip Flanagan (Framingham, MA/Rochester IT) went 1-2 with a double that drove in two runs, and walked twice in the losing effort.

Old Orchard Beach will travel to Seacoast tomorrow to take on the Mavericks at 6:35pm. Seacoast holds a 2-1 lead in the I-95 Series thus far. All Raging Tide season ticket holders get in free to all games against Seacoast this season in Portsmouth, NH.
