New Orleans VooDoo News Release

When the New Orleans VooDoo face off against the Columbus Destroyers on Saturday, April 16 in the New Orleans Arena at 7 p.m., fans can expect an exciting, interactive experience leading up to the game and through its conclusion.

The 6-4 VooDoo will be facing the Destroyers in an important match up, as the VooDoo look to improve their positioning for the Arena Football League playoff race. Saturday's game against Columbus will be New Orleans' only home contest in the month of April as they will go on the road for two consecutive weeks following the team. The Destroyers are coached by Chris Spielman, a four-time Pro Bowl linebacker for the Detroit Lions, Buffalo Bills and Cleveland Browns and 12-year NFL veteran.

Prior to the game, the team will honor former Los Angeles Avengers lineman Al Lucas, who tragically passed away after suffering an apparent spinal cord injury during the Avengers game against the New York Dragons on Sunday, April 10. A moment of silence will be conducted at all eight AFL games this weekend. In addition, players from every AFL team will wear a No. 76 helmet decal for the remainder of the season. Before the start of the game, the team will also honor 11 former Negro League baseball players from the New Orleans area on the field.

Saturday's game will feature a halftime football game between several mascots and a youth football team from the Harrell Playground Rams, a team of eight and nine year old boys from New Orleans. The mascots who will compete against the playground team include Bones, MoJo, Gumbo, along with other local mascots.

Plenty of tickets remain for Saturday's game with several pricing and seating options available. Another big crowd is expected at "The Graveyard." Through five regular season games, the VooDoo have recorded an average attendance figure of 15,244 fans per game, ranking third in the Arena Football League. The last three home games have all been sold out. In order to accommodate fans, the New Orleans Saints tickets offices at 5800 Airline Drive and at the Louisiana Superdome will be open on Friday until 6 p.m. and on Saturday from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.

The Georgia game will not be on television, but it can be heard on WWL 870-AM. Chris Kenyon will handle play-by-play, New Orleans Saints safety and special teams captain Steve Gleason will serve as guest color analyst.
