Lakeland ThunderBolts News Release
The Lakeland Thunderbolts (2-1) take on the Baltimore Blackbirds (0-1) this Friday at 7:00 PM at the Lakeland Center. The Thunderbolts are coming off a 39 - 36 up-set victory over the league leading Canton Legends. The Legends came into last Sundays game as the defending league champion and undefeated with a twelve game win streak. A 30 yard field goal off the toe of kicker Steve Kratz with two seconds left on the clock brought that record to a screeching halt. "It was one of the most exciting games I was ever involved in" said head coach Teddy Keaton.
The Blackbirds are coming off a 78-6 defeat at the hands of the Reading Express. "Baltimore is an expansion team and this was their first game. Two of the top teams in the league, Mississippi and Tallahassee are also expansion teams. I have no intention of taking this game lightly" Keaton said. "Coach Simpson has a lot of experience and is a great motivator I know he will get his team ready to play us. Just like our opening loss to Mississippi he will make the necessary changes and adjustments. They will come here ready to win".
"We just didn't execute. We played like a team that had not played indoor football before" Simpson said after the game. I consider this loss a right of passage in the 50 yard indoor game, many of our players are familiar with the 100 yard outdoor game and it was an adjustment for them.
Starting quarterback Kenny Irby is questionable for Friday's game. Irby suffered a bruised kidney during the Redding game. He was replaced by backup Joe Urso who went 2 of 14 for 26 yards.
Tickets for this Friday's game start at $7.00. The Blackbird game is college night with a $2.00 discount off all tickets $10.00 and above for all students, staff and faculty. Entertainment includes a concert by Mark Anthony Roman presented by Cell City.
