Windy City ThunderBolts News Release
TRAVERSE CITY, MI - The Traverse City Beach Bums scored six runs in the sixth inning to finish off a series sweep of the ThunderBolts, knocking them off 11-6 at Wuerfel Park Sunday night.
The ThunderBolts (24-27) got on the board early, getting two runs in the top of the first, the first time they scored first in a game since June 29. With two on and two out, Ransom LaLonde came up with a two-run single.
The lead would not last as Traverse City (22-29) scored three runs in the bottom of the first. Will Kengor hit a sacrifice fly, and Elijah Trail and Christian Santisteban each had an RBI single.
The offenses slowed down after the first as no one scored again until the bottom of the fifth. Ryan Bottger walked and eventually came home on an error to make it 4-2 Traverse City.
The Bolts reclaimed the lead with three runs in the top of the sixth. A hit and an error put a runner at third for Cody Keefer, who hit a sacrifice fly. A single and a walk loaded the bases for Kyle Wood, who came through with a two-run single, giving the ThunderBolts a 5-4 edge.
Again, Traverse City responded. They loaded the bases with two walks and a hit batter before coming up with four straight two-out hits. Ryan Bottger's single tied the score and Steven Patterson's gave the Bums the lead. Kengor and Trail followed with RBI hits to make the lead 9-5.
They added two late runs on a Kendall Patrick triple in the eighth.
Tim Zier's RBI single in the top of the ninth wrapped up the scoring for the ThunderBolts.
Benjamin Libuda (3-3) pitched two third of an inning for the win while Cameron Giannnini (1-1) allowed four runs in the sixth inning for the loss.
The Frontier League all-star break begins on Monday and six Windy City players will make their way to the game in Florence. Everyone else will be off until Friday, when the Bolts begin a nine-game home stand against the Normal CornBelters. Dina Bach will be performing a postgame concert for a JULIE Inc. Late Night Friday. It is also Budweiser Fill 'R Up Friday. The game starts at 7:05 and can be heard on WXAV 88.3 FM and wxav.com.
