Windy City ThunderBolts News Release
With the 2009 season right around the corner, the Windy City ThunderBolts announce the signing of infielder Mike Victor.
Victor comes to the ThunderBolts after playing the last two seasons with the Southern Illinois Miners. In 87 games with the Miners, Victor hit .253 with eight homers and 39 RBI. A top line defensive player, the utility infielder has committed only four errors in 222 career chances, a .982 fielding percentage.
A local product from Lincoln Way Central High School in New Lenox, IL, Victor played his college ball at St. Joseph's College of Indiana. For the Pumas, Victor was a career .300 batter while collecting over 200 career hits. While playing for Saint Joseph's, Victor also displayed a very keen eye at the plate drawing over 100 walks while striking out only once every 8.45 plate appearances.
"Mike is a versatile player who has seen action throughout the field. His experience with Southern Illinois makes him a valuable addition to our training camp roster," said ThunderBolts General Manager, Steve Tahsler.
The two-time defending Frontier League Champion ThunderBolts will open their home preseason slate with their Mother's Day Charity Classic against the Northern League's Joliet Jackhammers on Sunday, May 10 at 6:05 p.m. Ticket proceeds will benefit Park Lawn School and Activity Center in Oak Lawn. The game will feature the debut of Windy City's concession value menu where hot dogs, sodas and popcorn will be available for just $1. It will also mark the first ThunderBolts game on their new flagship station, 88.3 FM, WXAV. The Bolts will kick of their title defense on May 21 against the Rockford RiverHawks.
