Lakeland ThunderBolts News Release
NORTH CAROLINA-The Lakeland ThunderBolts 2006 season has come to an end. The ThunderBolts fell to the Fayetteville Guard, 44-18, at the Crown Coliseum Sunday afternoon.
Lakeland came out strong in the first quarter and if this was to be any indication of how the rest of the game would pan out, then the ThunderBolts should have came out on top. The ThunderBolts wasted no time and jumped out to a 12-0 lead with both wide receivers Kenny Perry and Mario Robbins scoring.
This would be the only scoring opportunity for Robbins as he pulled is groin muscle in the first half and did not return. "Losing Mario was a big loss because he's a receiver/running back," Keaton said.
Despite a strong first quarter, numerous penalties hindered the ThunderBolts play. They committed 14 penalties for 104 total yards. Coach Keaton said, "Every time we were in some kind of position to do something, we had some kind of major penalty."
The ThunderBolts could not get their passing game on track as quarterback Jason Johnson completed 5-of-14 and threw for one interception. The Guard made it very difficult from the ThunderBolts to use their running game and forced them into throwing the ball.
The Lakeland ThunderBolts are looking forward to another season of fast pace, hard hitting football action. Season tickets and corporate sponsorships for the 2007 are now available.
