Thunderbirds to Host Draft Night Party

Rio Rancho, NM - The New Mexico Thunderbirds will be hosting a draft night party for season ticket holders, corporate sponsors and fans at the home of team owners, Sam and Jackie Bregman on November 1, 2010 at 5 p.m. The event will feature food, prize drawings and a first-hand look at the draft process from an insider's point of view.
Attendees will have the opportunity to see the Thunderbirds draft war room in person and hear first hand the coach's picks as they happen. Head coach, Darvin Ham and assistant coach, Sean Rooks will be at the event, along with other special Thunderbirds guests. To RSVP email jcooper@nmtbirds.com or call 505-265-3865.
The Thunderbirds will have the second pick in the first round of the 2010 draft. Last season, the Thunderbirds had the first pick and selected Carlos Powell, who averaged 20.4 points and 4.6 rebounds per game. He also earned a spot on the NBA Development League All-Star team.
The NBA Development League draft utilizes a "serpentine" format, meaning the order will alternate in each of the eight rounds. The Thunderbirds will pick second in the first round, 15th in the second round, and so on. The draft will be held via teleconference with NBA headquarters in New York and begins at 5 p.m. MT. Team selections can be viewed online at www.nba.com/dleague.
"We are looking forward to making our player selections during the 2010-11 New Mexico Thunderbirds at the NBA Development league draft. There are a lot of new players coming into the league, and we are in a great position this season to acquire some of the best talent available," head coach Darvin Ham said.
