Thunderbirds Rally Past Vancouver 14-12

HALIFAX - The Halifax Thunderbirds held the Vancouver Warriors to just two second half goals and rallied past the West Coast visitors by a score of 14-12 on Saturday night in Nova Scotia.

Vancouver had leads of 5-3 after one quarter and 10-7 at the half dissipate in the second half when the Thunderbirds scored three unanswered in the third quarter to head to the final quarter all even at 10-10. In the final fifteen minutes, Halifax scored three goals in fifteen seconds to break the game open and carry home the win.

Port Moody resident Riley Loewen erupted on offence for the Warriors, scoring five goals to double his season total to ten. Kyle Killen also lit the lamp four times for Vancouver to push his team leading total to 22 goals on the season. Keegan Bal, Logan Schuss and Brandon Goodwin picked up singles, while Alex Buque stopped 26 shots in the loss.

With the defeat, Vancouver moves back to 5-5 on the season and head home after their season high three game road trip right where they started, in third place and holding down the final guaranteed playoff spot in the Western Conference. The Warriors return home to Vancouver, where five of their final eight games will take place at Rogers Arena.
