Arkansas RimRockers News Release

Little Rock, Arkansas April 6 - The Arkansas RimRockers ended their season in an overtime loss to the Albuquerque Thunderbirds by a score of 117-115. At the end of regulation play, the score was tied at 104, but the RimRockers lost their drive, allowing the Thunderbirds to soar to the victory.

"These guys played so hard tonight," RimRockers head coach Andy Stoglin said. "We played tremendously in the second half of regulation play but we lost momentum in the overtime. This is such a tough way to end the season."

Myron Allen got things rolling for the Rockers with an easy lay-up in the first quarter and was fouled in the process, making an old fashioned three-pointer to start the game. The RimRockers jumped out to an early lead that was short lived. A pair of fouls gave the Thunderbirds the opportunity they were looking for to pull ahead. They pulled away by as many as six points with the help of Andreas Glyniadakis' nine points, ending the first quarter leading 30-26.

Both clubs picked up the tempo to start the second quarter. The game took on a more physical style of play as the RimRockers fought to take the lead. Shortly into the quarter, a break away lay-up by Allen tied the score at 34. The Thunderbirds retaliated with a scoring attack, pulling away by 10 points. During the second quarter, Albuquerque outscored Arkansas 25-21. Although Kareem Reid led all scorers with 18 points, the RimRockers defense could not contain Albuquerque. The T-birds out-rebounded the Rockers 27-14 and put up 13 second-chance points compared to Arkansas' five.

The RimRockers used the third quarter to chip away at the T-birds' lead, outscoring them 31-22. A repeat lay-up-foul performance by Allen once again tied the game at 77. As part of their attack, the RimRockers caused seven thunderbird turnovers for six points while also posting 10 fast break points.

As the fourth quarter started, both teams took the court with an all or nothing attitude. Both opponents controlled the ball well. Every RimRocker basket was answered with one from Albuquerque. The Thunderbirds made a quick comeback effort, going on a 10-0 scoring spree to cut the RimRockers lead down to one point. On the RimRockers next to last possession, they got caught holding the ball and committed a shot clock violation. T.J. Cummings was then fouled and sent to the line, missing his shot. The Thunderbirds recovered the ball and Brandon Mason was fouled. Unfortunately for the RimRockers, he made his shot and tied the game at 102. The RimRockers brought the ball down the court and Allen threw it into the hands of an orange jersey with 20 seconds left on the clock. Opportunely for the home team, the favor was returned and Reid caught the pass from Chris Shumate for an easy lay-up. The Thunderbirds received the ball with seven seconds remaining and quickly converted on a money shot to send the game into overtime.

"We lost this game tonight because we just didn't play smart," Stoglin said. "If we would have played a little smarter and used our heads, we would have won. I have no doubt we would have won. The best players don't win games, the best teams do."

Arkansas RimRockers guard Kareem Reid ended his season with a terrific effort, leading the game in scoring with 30 points and in assists with 11. Behind Reid's big numbers were Allen (29 points), Olu Famutimi (18 points) and Brandon Freeman (14 points).

The Thunderbirds had a balanced effort led by T.J. Cummings who poured in 25 points and 13 rebounds, Tierre Brown with 19 points, Brandon Robinson and Andreas Glyniadakis each with 15 points, Marcus Douthit with 14 points and Tony Bland finishing with 12 points.
