Thunderbirds Announce Full Coaching Staff

Rio Rancho, NM - The New Mexico Thunderbirds announced today in a press conference that they have hired former NBA player, Sean Rooks, as assistant coach for the 2010-11 season. The T-Birds have also added former New Mexico Lobo, Notch Neves, as a volunteer assistant for the season.
Rooks was originally selected in the second round of the 1992 NBA Draft by the Dallas Mavericks out of the University of Arizona. He averaged a career best 13.5 points and 7.4 rebounds per game in his rookie season for the Mavericks. Overall, Rooks played for seven teams during his 13-year NBA career, including the Minnesota Timberwolves, Atlanta Hawks, Los Angeles Lakers, Los Angeles Clippers, New Orleans Hornets and Orlando Magic. He has spent the last two seasons as an assistant coach for the Bakersfield Jam. Rooks also worked as a broadcaster for the Jam for two seasons.
Neves played for the University of New Mexico Lobos from 1992-94. He helped lead the Lobos to back-to-back Western Athletic Conference Championships in 1993 and 1994 and two consecutive NCAA tournament appearances. Neves also played professionally in the New Zealand Basketball League for the Nelson Giants. Last season, Neves worked as a volunteer bench coach for the Thunderbirds.

Sean and Notch both bring a wealth of basketball knowledge that is not only valuable, but essential to the development of our players and the success of the franchise," Thunderbirds head coach Darvin Ham said.
